Pocket communities and pocket neighborhoods are popping up everywhere these days.
Pocket neighborhoods make up of small clusters of houses in urban, suburban, or rural settings in which small-footprint homes are arranged around a shared common area. The closeness that is created in these communities encourages interaction among neighbors and is perfect for people who seek a stronger sense of community than is found in a conventional neighborhood. They want a more caring supportive, safer, and connected place to live.

Does this sound intriguing? Here are three reasons why you should choose a Pocket Community for your retirement.
Stay Social
Pocket homes face a central courtyard or outdoor gathering space rather than a street, so your front porch is more welcoming and accessible to your neighbors. The COVID-19 Pandemic has isolated seniors more than any other group of people. A pocket community can help you stay connected with others during these troublesome times.
Rather than being isolated and alone, lots of seniors are choosing to move to pocket neighborhoods where they can live independently but remain active and social within a larger community of friends. Being a part of a loving, supportive community is so important for your mental health. As we all know, mental health is just as important as physical health.
We understand that some people are naturally introverted and prefer to stay home rather than be social butterflies Our single unit homes provide a space to choose your level of sociability depending on your needs. If you choose to stay in and have alone time, you have plenty of privacy inside your own private apartment. Then on days when you’re feeling more active- the option to join neighborhood activities is always available to you.
It’s your time. You choose how to spend it!
Stay Active
Four Oak Farms provides 16 acres of rolling farmland in picturesque Montevallo, Alabama, with shady walking paths and gently sloping trails to explore. You will likely find a friend walking their dog in the mornings, or taking in a leisurely sunset stroll in the evenings. If you’re a gardener, you can grow your own vegetables in the community garden or plant your own flower beds to spiff up your space. Not a gardener? Harvest a bag of pecans or black walnuts from the trees on the property instead. The Common House features a large gathering room, library, and game room where you can invite friends over to play a round of cards. Our Calendar of Events remains full with fun weekly activities and annual events to enjoy such as Movie Nights and Block Party Potluck Dinners. This part of Shelby County is filled with lots of beautiful local attractions for fun day trips. There is always something to look forward to at Four Oak Farms.
When the day is done, you can relax and unwind on a swing under one of the many magnificent oak trees right in your front yard.
Stay Safe
Living alone can sometimes be scary. The beauty of a pocket community is having the built-in safety net of next-door neighbors who care about your safety and wellbeing. Residents watch out for one another and are willing to help anyone in need. At Four Oak Farms, we have several measures in place to ensure the safety of all of our residents. Exterior security cameras watch all driveways to ensure that no uninvited guest is on the property. We also employ a full-time residential manager who lives in the Common House and offers 24-hour assistance if any resident needs help. Finally, all of our residents go through a background check, which give you peace of mind for your safety within the community.
